Abhyanga: It is a therapeutic oil massage done to restore the balance of doshas, the oil used are pre-medicated with specific herbs needed for the treatment.
Snehapanam: This treatment involves drinking of medicated ghee to treat gastrointestinal problems and help the digestive system work in tandem for overall well-being.
Podikkizhi: This treatment is done with powdered herbs and is effective for relieving deep seated tension, increasing circulation, cleaning toxins, strengthening muscle tissue and ridding the body of excess Kapha. This method helps the body to sweat out toxins and alleviate the doshas.
Elakizhi: This massage is given with medicated herbs and leaves. Fresh leaves of anti-Vata plants, such as Eranda (Ricinus communis), Arka (Calotropis Procera), Nirgundi (Vitex negundo), Rasna (Pluchea lanceolata), Coconut leaves, lemon and curcumin are fried with herbal ingredients and tied into cloth boluses. These are dipped into warm medicated oil and used for massaging the body. It is effective for various kinds of arthritis, spondylitis, back pain and reduce inflammation of soft tissue. The massage promotes better circulation within the affected area, induces perspiration which helps the skin eliminate wastes.
Njavara: Warm ‘Njavara’ rice or cooked red rice with herbal decoction and milk, is squeezed out through a cotton pouch and massaged on the body. This continues for about 30 to 40 minutes until the whole preparation is evenly spread on the body. As soon as the rice spread loses its warmth, it is completely wiped off and warm oil is applied.
Pizhichil: The whole body is bathed in streams of lukewarm medicated oil with simultaneous soft massage. Pizhichil protects the body from illnesses and builds up immunity for a healthy life. It is very useful for rheumatic diseases, arthritis, paralysis and also sexual weakness.
Snehavasthy: This is an oil therapy that is effective in balancing vata. The main seat of Vata is Pakvasaya or the large intestine, according to Ayurveda. So Snehavasthi or medicated oil enema is used to pacify Vata and prevent degeneration of the intestine. This helps to maintain proper metabolism and improve digestion, which in turn keeps the body in good health and spirit.
Avagaham: This is the relaxing sitz bath where one is made to sit in avagaham tub filled with warm decoction of herbs. The body is anointed with medicated oil and plunge bath is given in a tub filled with either the decoction of vatahara leaves or other herbs suitable for one s condition.
Kashayavasthy: This is a cleansing enema where a combination of honey, oil, herbal paste, herbal decoction, etc. is administered as per the requirement and condition. This therapy eliminates Vata and helps to treat respective disorders.
Lepanam: It is a procedure by which medicated paste is applied either locally or all over the body depending on the specific condition. It has to be removed once the paste dries. The thickness of the paste depends on the need of a particular condition. It should be avoided in people who are sensitive to heat and have a sensitive skin.
Evening therapy: The evening therapies like thailadhara or thakradhara help to reduce accumulation of emotional toxins in the body through relaxation techniques and special massages.
Normally the modalities of treatments and internal medications are selected according to the stage and duration of the diseases and body constitution. A final Ayurvedic plan to treat infertility is done only after doing a proper health assessment of the couple.
